10 A.M., Tuesday, May 20, 2025: Junior Fossil Hunter Day
The Vernal School is hosting an exciting Junior Fossil Hunt on Tuesday, May 20th, in the fossil pit of Montour Preserve. This program designed especially for early elementary-age students and preschoolers. This hands-on program offers young explorers the opportunity to dig into the past and uncover fascinating fossils while learning about the region’s prehistoric history in an engaging and age-appropriate way.

9 A.M., Saturday, May 24, 2024: Build a Birdhouse Day
Eagle Scout Cole Orner will lead a hands-on birdhouse-building workshop for children as part of his Summit service project with Venturing Crew 2307. The program begins at 9:00 a.m. at Goose Cove Pavilion 1. The workshop is free and open to the public, but due to supply needs, registration is required.

SUMMER CAMP OFFERINGS:
HABITAT HELPERS
The popular Habitat Helpers preschool day camp programs return this summer at the Montour Preserve via the Vernal School Environmental Education Partnership. Sessions are designed for ages 3-6.
Courses will be offered as follows:
- Woodland habitat is June 3 and July 8
- Wetland habitat is June 4 and July 9
- Grassland habitat June 5 and July 10
- Soil habitat is June 10 and July 15
- Aquatic habitat is June 11 and July 16
- Personal habitat is June 12 and July 17
CAMP CHILLISQUAQUE
Designed for ages 7 - 13
Each single day camp runs from 9:30 A.M.-3 P.M. and is limited to only 20 participants per day.

This year’s camp will center around Chillisquaque Creek, offering campers the chance to dive into the science of our watershed. Participants will participate in hands-on scientific investigation, research and projects, all aimed at understanding the health and importance our local ecosystem.
