Women Reconnecting and Engaging with Nature (WREN) will host a map and compass workshop on Sunday, April 27 at 2:00 p.m. at the historic Alvira bunkers in Union County. The event will focus on map reading, compass use and basic orienteering skills, offering participants a hands-on opportunity to learn essential navigation techniques in a unique outdoor setting. Joining the program will be Leslie Warriner, Executive Director of the Susquehanna Greenway Partnership, and an experienced orienteering enthusiast. Warriner will provide instruction and practical tips to help attendees gain confidence in using a map and compass to navigate. The Alvira Bunkers, once part of a World War II-era munitions storage facility, now offer a quiet, yet structured landscape ideal for exploration and learning. With its mix of open trails and hidden structures, the site presents a perfect environment for putting new orienteering skills into practice. Participants are encouraged to dress for the weather, wear sturdy footwear, and bring a compass if available. A limited number of compasses will be provided for those who do not have their own. The event is free to attend, but we do as that you register for planning purposes. This workshop is part of WREN’s ongoing mission to connect women with nature through skill-building, education and outdoor exploration. If you cannot make this event, but would like to learn more about joining WREN, please email Marissa at [email protected]. Please register below.
