The weekend of October4th-6th 2024, the Women Reconnecting and Engaging with Nature (WREN) program took a group of adventurous women into the heart of Pennsylvania's World’s End State Park. Nestled in the endless mountains, World’s End offered a picturesque backdrop for a weekend of camping, hiking, exploring, and family fun.
WREN is built on the idea of fostering connection: not only with nature but also with each other. The group encourages participants to step away from their everyday routines, embrace the outdoors and form connections between eachother and nature. It’s a space where women can challenge themselves through physical activities like hiking, while also finding moments of relaxation, reflection, and mindfulness in the beauty of natural settings.
Known for its rugged beauty and sweeping views, World's End State Park was the perfect setting for WREN’s mission: to help women reconnect with nature and themselves. With hiking, exploring the edges of Loyalsock Creek, campfire songs, and stargazing on the agenda, the weekend was a perfect escape into nature.
The weekend started on Friday evening as the participants and their families arrived at the campsite, set up their tents, and gathered around the campfire for s'mores and scary stories including Edgar Allan Poe's "The Raven".
Saturday morning started slow, giving everyone time to enjoy breakfast and some quiet moments before the day’s activities began.  After lunch, the real adventure kicked off as the group hit the trails for a short afternoon hike which included time to enjoy the views and splash in the Loyalsock Creek.
The evening brought the group together again for another night around the campfire. Shaina Davis, who plays in a musical group in Danville brought her ukulele and entertained the group with songs.  S'mores and Mountain Pies were a favorite of the children who attended. Once they sky was dark enough, the group head to a nearby field to star gaze and learn about a few constellations.

WREN's next meeting will be on November 17th at Montour Preserve.  More details will be posted as they become available.
