This past Sunday in Lewisburg, the Vernal School's Women Reconnecting and Engaging with Nature (WREN) program spent the afternoon with Rose Anna Moore, a contestant from Season 8 of the History Channel’s Alone series. The informal get together brought together women from across the region for a powerful conversation about survival, resilience, and the profound relationship between humans and nature. During the gathering, Rose shared deeply personal stories from her time on Alone, where she faced the raw challenges of surviving in the Canadian wilderness—completely isolated, with minimal tools, and many dangers, including grizzly bears. Her journey was more than just a test of physical endurance; it was a spiritual and emotional quest that resonated with many in attendance. The WREN members were especially moved by her insights on solitude, resourcefulness, and how those experiences continue to shape her mission today.
In addition to recounting her time on the show, Rose introduced her nonprofit, This Is My Quest, an organization dedicated to empowering individuals through outdoor education, survival skills, and self-discovery in the natural world. The group discussed exciting upcoming opportunities including wilderness skill-building events, and programs designed to help women grow their confidence and connection to the outdoors. The Vernal School's Women Reconnecting and Engaging with Nature (WREN Program) creates a welcoming space for women of all backgrounds to reconnect with the natural world, build community, and gain confidence in outdoor settings. Activities can include guided hikes, natural wellness, kayaking, camping, skill-building workshops, guest speaker events (like Rose Anna Moore’s visit), and more. At its heart, WREN is about empowerment—encouraging women to explore nature, care for the environment, and support one another in a community rooted in curiosity, strength, and respect for the natural world.
