After having to postpone their first outing due to storms, Women Reconnecting and Engaging with Nature (WREN program) gathered at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 5th, 2024, for their first official outing. Thankfully, this time the weather was perfect as they gathered their gear and headed out for a hike on Dales Ridge Trail. The Wren Program was created to foster meaningful and empowering experiences for women in nature. This program provides a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment where women and girls can develop outdoor skills, build confidence, and form lasting connections amongst themselves.
Dale's Ridge trail, located outside of Lewisburg and maintained by the Merrill W. Linn Conservancy, provided the perfect location for their first outing. With varying terrains and beautiful overlooks, it was the ideal location to hit the trail and start building confidence in the outdoors. The 2.4-mile hike concluded with a short walk through a historic homestead built by a Revolutionary War officer and his family. After successfully completing their first hike, the group decided to celebrate by gathering for lunch together at May's Drive In. Upcoming activities for the WREN Program include hiking, kayaking, fishing and backpacking. If you are interested in joining WREN or seeking more information please email [email protected].
