Step into the New Year with a First Day Hike at Montour Preserve.

Join us as Pennsylvania Master Naturalists, Deb Steransky and Roberta Coulter lead a First Day Hike on the 3.9-mile Chilisaugi Trail around Lake Chillisquaque at 10 a.m. on January 1st, 2025.  This free, family friendly hike offers the opportunity to connect with nature, get some fresh air and start the new year on the right foot.

The Vernal School and PA Master Naturalists are happy to team up for the First Day Hike of 2025.  First Day Hikes are a beloved tradition across the country, encouraging families and individuals to step into the new year with a healthy and meaningful outdoor activity. There’s no better way to recharge after the holiday season than by immersing yourself in the peace and beauty of nature.

Appropriate for all ages, participants will enjoy a leisurely hike while our experts point out and discuss Montour Preserve's unique ecology along with a diversity of plant and wildlife.  If you are interested in nature journaling, our naturalists will help guide you through the process and offer suggestion on how to best document the experience.

Please remember to dress appropriately for the cold weather, bring bottled water and wear appropriate footwear for the 3.9-mile hike. The group will meet at 10 a.m. in the Goose Cove Parking Lot.  To get to the lot turn into the preserve as if you were going to the visitor center but stay straight on the road.  It will take you directly to the lot.
