Spring Amphibian Walk with Herpetologist Mary Kate O'Donnell to take place at Montour Preserve2/6/2025 REGISTRATION FOR THIS EVENT IS FULL. PLEASE EMAIL [email protected] TO BE ADDED TO THE WAITING LIST Herpetologist Mary Kate O'Donnell of Lycoming College will lead a Spring Amphibian Walk on Sunday, March 16, at 2:00 PM at Montour Preserve. This family friendly outdoor program will take you on a guided walk through the preserve to see where frogs and other amphibians are emerging from hibernation and making their way to breeding pools. As winter recedes and temperatures rise, amphibians awaken from their cold-weather slumber and begin their journey to breeding pools. Early spring is a crucial time for species like wood frogs, and spring peepers, who emerge from hibernation to seek out their breeding locations. During the walk, participants will learn about the life cycles, behaviors, and conservation challenges of local amphibians. Herpetologist, Mary Kate O’Donnell will share insights on their habitats, adaptations, and the importance of their role in our ecosystem. Along the way, we’ll listen for their calls, search for egg masses, and explore their habitat. This program is perfect for families, students, and nature enthusiasts—come ready for adventure, and don’t forget your boots! If you have any questions, please reach out to Program Supervisor Marissa Crames via email at [email protected] or Cell Phone (570) 850-1166. We work hard to continue to offer programming at no cost.
