Mark your calendars and register early. Andrew Rockhound and the Central PA Rock and Mineral Club are returning to host another Fossil event at Montour Preserve on October 19th. May's event hit capacity, please make sure you register. Dig, discover and learn at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 19th during our fossil event at Montour Preserve, hosted by the Central PA Rock and Mineral Club. Central Pennsylvania is renowned for its rich geological history, particularly in relation to the Devonian period. During the Devonian period, which occurred roughly 419-359 million years ago, much of what was now Pennsylvania was covered by shallow seas creating prime conditions for the formation of fossils. Andrew Rockhound will guide us as we explore fossils and the rich geological history of Central Pennsylvania. It is sure to be an exciting day of scientific discovery as we unearth and examine fossils dating back millions of years. This program will start in the auditorium at 1 p.m. for an educational and fun presentation. Following the presentation, we will move outside to the fossil pit. While at the pit, Andrew will lead us through the process of finding fossils, providing valuable insights into the geology of the area. Together, we'll uncover ancient specimens, study their significance, and deepen our understanding of Earth's prehistoric past. This event offers a unique opportunity to engage with the natural world in a hands-on, and explorative way. Perfect for fossil hunters of all ages! Please bring any rock hounding supplies you have, such as picks and goggles. This is a free event, but you will need to register at the link below. Thank you!
