National Wildlife Day is celebrated twice a year. Once on February 22nd and again on September 4th. Established to bring national awareness to endangered animals, it also brings attention to the efforts many put forth to protect our wildlife. This not only includes sanctuaries and wildlife refuges, but those who educate the public of the importance of conservation. To celebrate the occasion, I decided to visit the wildlife refuge located in Montour Preserve, just to see what wildlife or signs of wildlife I would encounter. It was a gloomy, overcast day. I was unsure if I would find anything at all. I was happy to be proven wrong. The best part about being outside and surrounded by nature, is that the world slows down. Quiet noises become louder. Distractions of our hectic lives disappear. Small details you would normally overlook become obvious. Once you are in that state of mind, you will see that even on the gloomiest of days, you are surrounded by life.
Below are some pictures from today's wandering. They include some evidence of wildlife and a few delightful encounters.
