Bug Pinning Workshop to be offered Aug. 1 at Montour Preserve will focus on invasive species7/16/2024 Discover the fascinating world of insects at a special Bug Pinning Workshop hosted by the Middle Susquehanna Riverkeeper Association and Vernal School Environmental Education Partnership at the Montour Preserve. This hands-on event will take place on Aug. 1, starting at 10 a.m. Participants will take a short hike through the preserve, located at 374 Preserve Road, Danville, to observe and potentially capture bugs, focusing particularly on catching and pinning invasive species. Following the hike, attendees will engage in a guided session on the art and science of bug pinning. Experts will demonstrate proper techniques for handling insects, pinning them and accurately labeling specimens. The session will be led by Susquehanna University student and association summer intern Jay Schofield. This workshop will be a fantastic opportunity for nature enthusiasts of all ages to deepen their understanding of local insect life. The Bug Pinning Workshop is open to the public and suitable for beginners and experienced bug enthusiasts alike. Participants are encouraged to bring comfortable walking shoes and clothing for the outdoor portion of the workshop. All necessary pinning materials will be provided.
