Two-hour family Fall Float on the Hiawatha to have music, crafts, education, snacks, trivia and more8/15/2024 The Vernal School of Environmental Education and Rider Park have teamed up to bring an evening of family fun, music and education to the Hiawatha River Boat on Friday, October 25, 2024. This fundraiser is the first collaboration between the Vernal School and Rider Park and promises to be an evening family fun. All proceeds will be split evenly between the two organizations. Rider Park, spanning 867 acres in Lycoming County, is a nature preserve open to the public. It boasts 10 miles of trails featuring stunning vistas and meadows. The park provides a variety of educational programs and opportunities for individuals and families to engage with the natural environment. The Vernal School Environmental Education Partnership is a special collaboration of more than 20 organizations. Together, they provide Montour Preserve with educational programs and additional resources. Situated in Montour County, the Montour Preserve spans 640 acres and features Lake Chillisquaque, a variety of trails, and a well-known fossil pit. Activities for the event include: A Fall Foliage Presentation with Sara Street, Rider Park Manager Live Music from local musician Mike Lundy Family Friendly Fall Themed Crafts with the Vernal School River Trivia Contest with Riverkeeper John Zaktansky This evening offers a unique chance for families to enjoy an entertaining time together, discover more about Rider Park and the Vernal School, and support both organizations in their mission to offer programs and family-oriented experiences connected to the natural world.
