Montour Preserve will host a daylong community festival on Saturday, Oct. 4, as the Middle Susquehanna Riverkeeper Association and its Vernal School Environmental Education Partnership present Pack the Preserve. The free, family-friendly event will feature a range of activities spread throughout Montour Preserve. From 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., visitors can take part in the preserve’s first Car and Boat Show. Entries are being accepted in categories ranging from vintage and classic cars to modern models, custom builds and a people’s choice award. Boats will also be judged, with Lake Chillisquaque open to paddling and electric motors only. Registration is $15 per vehicle or boat by Oct. 3 and $20 on the day of the event.
The Wildlife Art Show will return to the Education Center auditorium and this year will include a new Wildlife of the Watershed student exhibit for grades K–12. Young artists may submit photography, sketches, paintings, sculpture, music or poetry, along with a special contest division for artwork created from repurposed litter collected in the watershed. All student entries must be received by Sept. 30. A celebration of the Middle Susquehanna Riverkeeper Association’s 10th anniversary is scheduled from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Goose Cove Overlook Pavilion. This event will include remarks from founding Riverkeeper Carol Parenzan, past and current board members, live music, video presentations and prize drawings.
