Families will gain a newfound appreciation for these industrious creatures and their contributions to environmental sustainability. The educational program hosted by the Vernal School and Susquehanna University’s Freshwater Research Institute is designed to be both informative and interactive. Families participating in the program will engage in a variety of activities that highlight the ecological significance of beavers. The program will begin with a presentation led by Susquehanna University. This session will cover beaver biology, their natural behaviors, and their historical and present-day impacts on aquatic ecosystems. Participants will learn about the ways in which beavers contribute to water conservation and habitat restoration, as well as the challenges they face due to habitat loss and human-wildlife conflicts. After the presentations families will have the opportunity to construct their own miniature beaver dams using natural materials on using our stream table and participate in other interactive beaver activities.
