Read and Explore is a weekly program for preschoolers and their families where we dive into a nature-based book and then go out and explore the themes we find in it. That could mean a craft or STEM-related science project or hike or numerous other ways to explore the environment.
Topics typically align with the seasons or upcoming holidays, helping children make meaningful connections between stories and the world around them. During 2026, children have enjoyed books such as “Owl Moon,” “The Mitten,” “Over and Under the Snow,” “Stranger in the Woods” and “Winter Walk,” with each story serving as a starting point for crafts, imaginative play and age-appropriate exploration.
Read and Explore provides a welcoming, low-pressure environment where young learners can build early skills, practice social interaction and develop curiosity through play. Activities often extend beyond the story, encouraging children to observe nature, use their senses and engage in creative problem-solving. By combining books, art and exploration, the program supports early learning while creating shared experiences centered on reading and the outdoors.
